Our chickens live outside, and forage in the grasses and cover crops we grow. They eat insects, seeds, weeds, grass, and our organic produce (they love corn and melons!). In addition, our chickens get some kelp to keep them exceptionally healthy. Pastured birds are smaller (generally speaking) and are actually more tender if they are first frozen and then thawed. The bones make the BEST broth you can find (using the bones is the most economical way to consume your chicken, and the broth makes a very nourishing and tasty addition to your soups, grains, casseroles, etc.) Our chickens generally range between 3-5 pounds each and do well with "moist" cooking methods. September, October, and November |
